Blue Energy have completed the improvement works to Lochalsh Harbour owned by the Highland Council. Design and construction of the works were funded by Blue Energy as part of the Beinneun Wind Farm project near Fort Augustus; the works included diversion of overhead cables into the local substation, relocation of freezer used by the harbour and local fisherman, replacement and improvement of sections of the pier that the harbour and railway station use and junction improvements works at the Fishery Pier.
The project was conceived to improve the eastern pier route to reduce the impact on the local community and businesses. Use of the western pier would have impacted on car parking in the village centre and required large components to use the A87 heading west over the Skye Bridge before carrying out “U’ turns and travelling back through the village centre for a second time throughout the summer.
Working closely with the Harbour Master and his team and the Highways Authority, along with Network Rail and a number of local businesses including Kyle Seafoods, MOD/Qinetic and Morar Motors, Blue Energy ensured the impact of the vessel deliveries and road transport was kept to an absolute minimum.
